Most people who keep up with me know that I am going to teach English in Thailand!! I just found out all the final details for my placement to I thought I would share them with everyone who is interested.
I am going with an organization called CIEE to be a teacher in Thailand. The initial time frame is from the first week of May until the end of September, about 5 months. However, most of the people who sign up fall in love with it and stay at least a year! We will see 🙂 Upon arriving, there will be a one week orientation in Bangkok with the other participants from the US and other English speaking countries. There we will get important information on things such as changing currency, basic Thai phrases and tips for the first day of teaching. We also go on lots of cool excursions including a Buddhist temple and an elephant sanctuary. After orientation week, we will all be sent away to our separate school placements. There will most likely be a few other people at orientation going to my school also. If not, there are already 27 foreign teachers at the school who I will connect with once I get there.
I have been placed at Anuban Chonburi school in Chonburi, Thailand. It is a beautiful location on the coast of Thailand, which means I will be spending a lot of time at the beach!! It’s still a good sized city and only 2 hours away from Bangkok. Anuban Chonburi School has 3,000 students and three levels of English Programs. I will be teaching English to 1st graders, focusing on grammar and conversation skills. I am incredibly excited! God has blessed me with the exact placement that I hoped for! The students I will be teaching are the lowest level English speakers which means I will be starting with ABC’s and using a lot of pictures and basic words. It will be so fun watching them grow and start speaking English! I cannot wait to meet my students! I am officially “T.Megan” in Thailand, T. for teacher.
I have about 7 weeks until I leave so I am getting my forms ready for my visa application, booking my flight, and finishing my online TEFL (teaching English as a foreign language) course. Follow my blog posts to keep up with my trip! This is going to be a crazy adventure but I am so excited and I know this is what I’m meant to do! Feel free to comment if you have any questions! 🙂
